This post is another restaurant review, about chicken wings.  This past weekend while traveling to Springfield Illinois and back, we hit three different wing restaurants, Hooters, Show-Me's, and Buffalo Wild Wings.  Most people probably have heard of Hooters and Buffalo Wild Wings, but maybe not Show-Me's.  Show-Me's is kind of a copy cat of Hooters with very similar wings with the waitresses dress almost identically.  Here is how I broke down the categories:

  • Price: Show-Me's - besides the busy dinner hours, wings are 35 cents each (just raised it from about 20 cents each) and domestic beers are very cheap.  Buffalo Wild Wings was the big looser here, pay a lot more for what you get.
  • Wing Taste: Show-Me's, very similar to Hooters, but they have a Spicy  BBQ sauce that beats all other flavors.
  • Atmosphere: Show-Me's, very relaxed but fun atmosphere, where Hooters is a bit to loud for my likings, and Buffalo Wild Wings is just a standard restaurant.
  • Appetizers:  Show-Me's, we had fried pickles at both Hooters and Show-Me's, but Show-Me's fried pickles were the traditional and had a better breading then Hooters.  Hooters were more fried pickle chips.  We had both Burger bites and Southwest rolls at Buffalo Wild Wings and weren't impressed with either.

As you can tell Show-Me's was a much better experience for us this past weekend.  It was a better environment to sit and enjoy the people you were with, where as Hooters was more for the Bachelor party type (even at lunch) and Buffalo Wild Wings was nothing spectacular and are very inconsistent with their wings.  So if you are ever near a Show-Me's and looking for some good wings, head on in, you won't be disappointed.

However, if you are looking for the best wings, GRILL them yourself.  Much better then any friend meat you can have.  They are much healthier and you control the taste.  If you are looking for a good wing recipe check this post out: Chicken Wings & Hashbrown Casserole
